Our Principal

In 1897, the year she brought Loreto to Normanhurst, Mother Gonzaga Barry IBVM famously wrote that we must:

"Aim at something excellent; our life is largely influenced by what we aim at… our ideals often make our realities…"

Any Loreto girl, past or present, will be familiar with this forward-thinking and outward-looking approach to life espoused by the first pioneering Loreto educators. Indeed, it is this approach that shapes our formation of current students into global citizens of curiosity, drive and aspiration.

We were thrilled to have this visionary leadership style and progressive future-focus captured by CEO Magazine in their Executive Interview with our Principal, Ms Marina Ugonotti.

The profile gives voice to Ms Ugonotti’s community-driven and culture-driven leadership of Loreto Normanhurst’s new Strategic Plan: Women For Our Times. Drawing from strong foundations, organisational partnerships and a diverse community, according to Ms Ugonotti, this strategic vision will ensure that a Loreto Normanhurst education will prepare students “to be activists, advocates, professionals, captains of industry and people for others in the real world.”

“The Loreto Sisters before us were dangerous innovators, and they remind us to always remain on the edge of innovation, to remain true to who we are... Women for Our Times calls for us to frame the work we do so we can shape our girls and our young women into compassionate warriors – women of grit and resilience, who care and who are compassionate to the needs of others, who are creative in how they respond to the problems that they and society face, who have a sense of humour and don’t take themselves too seriously, and who are always seeking the truth.”

We encourage you to read the CEO Magazine feature, ‘Educating the Future,’ for its snapshot of the aims and ideals that inform where we are headed as a Loreto community.
