Emma Mackey ('13) Emma Mackey: New York Attorney

Join us on Wednesday, 14 June for our Alumnae Networking Evening, to hear Emma Mackey's incredible journey from Loreto alumna to attorney at a top New York law firm.

We are thrilled to share some extraordinary news about one of our esteemed alumnae, Emma Mackey, Class of 2013, who has achieved remarkable milestones in her legal career and is soon to embark on an exciting new chapter.

After graduating from Loreto Normanhurst in 2013, Emma wasted no time in pursuing her passion for law. She enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws program at the University of Sydney. During her undergraduate studies, Emma's focus on American Studies led her to a highly competitive internship at the U.S. Consulate in Sydney in 2017, providing her with invaluable insights into international affairs.

Driven by a thirst for knowledge, Emma embarked on a six-month exchange program at Cornell University in the United States. This experience broadened her legal horizons and deepened her understanding of the complexities of the legal profession. Returning to Australia, she further sharpened her skills by undertaking a clerkship at Herbert Smith Freehills, a renowned corporate law firm in Sydney. Emma's dedication and hard work paid off as she joined Herbert Smith Freehills full time, and quickly making a name for herself within the firm.

In July 2020, she was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW, a testament to her legal prowess and commitment to excellence. Having completed the firm's Graduate Program, Emma found her niche in the Dispute Resolution practice group. Her time at Herbert Smith Freehills allowed her to gain invaluable experience across all phases of complex commercial litigation, further solidifying her expertise in the field.

In a remarkable turn of events, Emma's talents and achievements caught the attention of Harvard Law School, and she was admitted to their esteemed program in 2022. This May, Emma proudly graduated from Harvard with a Masters of Law, further elevating her standing in the legal community.

Currently, Emma is diligently preparing for the New York bar exam, as she has secured a coveted position as an attorney at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York City, starting in September 2023. Her future endeavours hold great promise, and we have no doubt that Emma will continue to excel and make significant contributions to the legal profession.

We extend our warmest wishes to Emma for continued success and fulfillment in her career. Her accomplishments bring pride and honour to our Loreto Normanhurst community.
