In early October, we staged our production of Matilda the Musical Jr to four sold out shows!
It’s been 20 years since we staged a Musical at Loreto Normanhurst, and our production proved to be an enormous success. The final product was a wonderful celebration of the talent, collaboration, and hard work of students from Year 5-11.
We are delighted to share an insight into the show with you. These highlights are the culmination of the creativity, imagination, collaboration, and grit of all students involved.
Alumna Elise McCann (Class of 2002) who played Miss Honey in the Australian Premier of Matilda the Musical joined us for closing night of our production.
Elise is an Australian Actor, Singer, Producer and Writer working across live theatre, television, concerts, and film graduating from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in 2003.
Elise is most well-known for originating the role of Miss Honey in the Australian production of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Matilda for which she won the 2016 Helpmann Award and the 2015 Sydney Theatre Award and was nominated for the 2016 Green Room Award for her portrayal of Miss Honey.
Recently Elise has partnered with Lucy Durack to create Hey Lemonade. Hey Lemonade, is a mobile app providing specific, pragmatic, and uplifting pep talks to help with everyday life issues, offered in a range of diverse voices with colloquial language and light-hearted wit. Their mission is to provide a smarter and faster alternative way to attain support, build resilience and nip everyday problems in the bud, preventing smaller stresses from becoming bigger!
We would like to thank Elise for coming to see our production and taking the time out to also meet with the cast who were all so thrilled to meet her.
“It was great to have her support, meet her and hear about her experiences from being involved in Drama at Loreto to her career in professional productions.” Student from cast of Matilda the Musical Jr.
