Loreto Normanhurst hosted a special event as part of National Science Week, celebrating the wonders of science and innovation. On Tuesday, the 13th of August, students from Year 5 to Year 12 joined the Breakfast with Scientists event, which featured distinguished cognitive neuroscientists and co-founders of Brain Camp, Dr. Mark Williams PhD and Dr. Dave Kaplan PhD.

Loreto Normanhurst is committed to encouraging their young female students to pursue careers in STEM fields, recognising the importance of fostering curiosity and critical thinking from a young age. The Breakfast with Scientists event was an opportunity for students to engage directly with leading scientists, ask questions, and be inspired by the possibilities within the STEM disciplines.

Loreto Normanhurst Head of Science, Ms. Simone Bryant shared her excitement on the event and impact to students:

“We were thrilled to host such an enriching event during National Science Week. Having Dr. Mark Williams and Dr. Dave Kaplan share their expertise with our students is invaluable. It is our hope that this event will spark a lifelong interest in science and inspire our young female students to consider future careers in STEM and even neuroscience!”

Dr. Mark Williams and Dr. Dave Kaplan expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to visit Loreto Normanhurst, noting how enjoyable and inspiring the breakfast session with the students was. They were particularly impressed by the intelligence, maturity, and curiosity of both the older students and the primary school girls, as well as the enthusiasm of their teachers. The experience was mutually inspiring, with the scientists feeling that they too were deeply motivated by the engaging and inquisitive young minds they encountered.
