Give the gift of a Loreto Normanhurst education this Christmas

Christmas Bursary Appeal

It has been another wonderful and fulfilling year at Loreto Normanhurst.  This year, in which we celebrate our 125th anniversary, has given us many moments to reflect upon what it means to be a member of the Loreto Normanhurst community and how our girls’ futures are shaped by their time here. It is evident a Loreto Normanhurst education is forever: that the love of learning, character, and friendships formed here stay with our girls long after they’ve left. Our students go on to contribute meaningfully to family, society and church, just as Mary Ward so vigorously believed they would.

In carrying on Mary Ward’s belief and commitment, we are dedicated to ensuring all girls have access to a Loreto Normanhurst education through our Bursary Program and Indigenous Scholarship Program. We are enormously proud of these programs which, over the course of twenty-two years, have given the gift of a Loreto Normanhurst education to more than fifty girls. Through donations from former students like you, we are able to support girls who may not have the means to access a Loreto Normanhurst education, but are no less deserving.

As Christmas draws near, we are calling upon our community to consider contributing to our Bursary Fund or Indigenous Scholarship Fund, to give the gift of a brighter future to other promising young women.

“My word, they have changed their horizons.”

Our Bursary Program and Indigenous Scholarship Program enable us to support young women like Sarah Palmer and Lua Pellegrini to fulfil their academic and personal potential and go on to respond to the needs of our world.

Sarah Palmer (2015), a fourth generation Loreto Normanhurst student, was a bursary recipient from Dubbo who boarded from Years 7 to 12. She is currently studying Medicine while working as a registered Physiotherapist, having completed her Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) in 2019. “I have had so many fantastic opportunities thus far in my life, and a lot of them have been directly and indirectly facilitated through my Loreto education.’

When Lua Pellegrini (2019) arrived at Loreto, she had limited confidence in her learning abilities. Through the support of Loreto she ended up achieving Band 6 in all of her Year 12 subjects, ranking 3rd in the state for Aboriginal Studies. A true role model for young Aboriginal women, Lua was the first in her family to attend university. Alongside her studies, Lua has spent a term chairing the NSW Youth Advisory Council advocating for children and young people across NSW, and this year Lua was selected to design the Sydney Swans 2022 Marn Grook guernsey. Lua is very grateful for the opportunity to attend Loreto Normanhurst and has said, “I just wish every young Aboriginal person could have a fantastic education like mine.”

There are countless stories just like these, and with your help we can ensure that there are many more.

This Christmas, your donation will go even further

For the first time, the Loreto Normanhurst Ex-Students’ Association has pledged to match every donation to the Christmas Bursary Appeal, up to a total of $50,000. This means every gift, large or small, will be DOUBLED in value.

Help us light the way for a girl who can change the world

This giving season, I urge you to make a tax-deductible gift to our Bursary Fund or Indigenous Scholarship Fund and light the way for our young women; a light that will shed brightly into their future and, ultimately, into the future of our world.

Thank you for your generosity.
